SAMPLE LETTERS Date Honorable ________________ Dear Mr. ________________: I believe we should sever all ties with the United Nations immediately. The United States Bill of Rights unequivocally protects each American's God-given rights from government interference whereas the UN "Universal Declaration of Human Rights" declares a person has rights but such rights are subject "to such limitations as are determined by law." Further, the UN "Universal Declaration of Human Rights" declares some "rights and freedoms may in no case be exercised contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations." Opponents of removing the United States from the UN argue such a move would equal isolation however withdrawal from the UN would not mean a retreat into so-called "isolation" anymore than absence of the UN prior to 1945 meant that the United States was "isolated." It ought to be obvious to any elected official as it is surely obvious to this citizen that withdrawal from the United Nations is essential if our nation is to remain free. Please let me have your assurance that you will work to get our nation out of the trap that the UN has become. Sincerely,
John Q. Citizen Date Honorable ________________ Dear Mr. ______________: I strongly support Rep. Ron Paul's "American Sovereignty Restoration Act of 1999". I think it is vital to the preservation of our liberties that we get out of the UN at the earliest possible date. In April 1998, when the state of Virginia was about to execute a duly tried and convicted murderer, officials of the UN's World Court sought to intervene claiming that Virginia authorities had failed to abide by some international law. Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore refused to bow to such intervention. He stated that refusal to carry out the carefully considered decisions of his state's judicial system "would have the practical effect of transferring responsibility from the courts of Virginia and the United States to the International Court." While Americans who value U.S. sovereignty applaud Governor Gilmore's stand, we believe that internationalists have every intention of accomplishing such a transfer of power. The way to block those intentions is to have our nation withdraw completely from the United Nations and all its subdivisions. Please let me have your assurances that you will co-sponsor or support Rep. Paul's legislation to have the United States reaffirm this nation's sovereignty by quitting the UN. Sincerely,
Jane Q. Citizen |
